Feasts in Oviedo and surrounding area

Day of America in Asturias. (September 19th). It has been declared a feast of national tourist interest. It is a great folkloric parade with floats.

National Descent along the Nalón River (June). Canoeing Feast.

Festival of Les Lletres Asturianes (28 de abril). It takes place in the Cristo neighborhood and it is organized by the Xunta Moza Pola Cultura Asturiana.

Feast of la Balesquida (First Wednesday of Pentecost). The peak of this feast is on Martes de Campo (Country Tuesday), which originated in the 13th century thanks to a donation made by doña Velasquita to the Cofradía de los Sastres, in order to help the poor.

Feast of Antroxu or Carnival (End of February). This is a feast that keeps getting more colorful and more important each year, with numerous parades and custom contests.

Ascension Feast and Fair (May). This is a well-attended Fair, celebrated in honor of the countryside. There is an excellent cattle contest, art exhibition, and an agricultural machinery show; indigenous sports show, Asturian songs, etc.

Feasts of Saint Matthew (September 13th-22nd). They are the main and most popular feasts in the city. Art and sport shows and activities with a traditional character take place during the whole month.
